Before you spend money on insulation or mechanical upgrades, you need to understand what's actually happening in your house. The Home Performance Assessment is a systematic, whole-house diagnostic that tells you what's wrong, why it's wrong, and what to do about it — in priority order. It's the right starting point for any building-performance project.

Scope of Work
What's Included
Blower Door Test
We depressurize the house to a standard reference pressure and measure total air leakage. The result — CFM50 and ACH50 — tells you how leaky the building is and provides a baseline for measuring improvement.
Thermal Imaging
With the house under pressure, we use a thermal camera to locate air leakage pathways and insulation defects that are invisible under normal conditions. Cold spots, bypasses, and missing insulation show clearly.
Building Envelope Inspection
We inspect the attic, crawlspace or basement, rim joists, walls, and other envelope assemblies. We're looking at insulation type, depth, and continuity — and at the air barrier, which is often absent or compromised.
Moisture and Ventilation Observations
We note moisture indicators — staining, efflorescence, condensation patterns, mold — and assess ventilation conditions in the attic, crawlspace, and living space. Moisture problems are often symptoms of air leakage.
Written Findings Report
You receive a written report documenting what we found, with photographs. The report includes prioritized recommendations — what to address first, what can wait, and what to watch.
Follow-Up Consultation
After you've reviewed the report, we're available to answer questions and help you think through next steps. We don't sell corrective work — our job is to give you an honest picture and let you decide how to proceed.
The Process
What to Expect
Schedule
Use the form below to request an assessment. We'll confirm availability and send a brief pre-visit checklist — a few simple things to do before we arrive (close fireplace dampers, note any specific concerns).
The Visit
The assessment takes 2–3 hours. We work systematically through the house — attic, living space, basement or crawlspace — while the blower door runs. You're welcome to follow along and ask questions.
The Report
You receive a written findings report within a few days of the visit. It documents what we found, with photographs, and includes prioritized recommendations.
Follow-Up
We're available to answer questions after you've reviewed the report. If you decide to pursue corrective work, we can help you think through contractor selection and scope.

What the Assessment Is Not
The Home Performance Assessment is a diagnostic service, not a home inspection. We're not evaluating the roof, the electrical system, the plumbing, or the HVAC for code compliance or safety — we're evaluating the building envelope and its interaction with moisture, air, and heat. If you need a home inspection, you need a licensed home inspector.
